The Problem
Native Plants are disappearing from landscapes at an alarming rate.
Most states have no idea how many of their Native Plants are left. Commercial Landscapes and invasive species are taking over their habitats and changing the landscapes. This is harmful not just for plant preservation, but also for the native animals and insects that rely on these plants.
Plan of Action
We are planting a garden of native species in the center of our town, near our library to inspire our local residents to use these Native Plants in their lanscaping instead of commercially available cultivars or invasives, which often use far more water than natives and in many cases provide very little food/habitat to our native birds, animals & insects. Each plant will be labelled, and we are partnering with the library to offer information about how to include these plants in your home or business landscape.
So far we have raised money for the plants, and planted them, and labelled them. we are hoping to add commercial quality fencing around the edges to protect the plants, and prevent foot traffic.
Next year, we are hoping to make plants we grow from seeds available to the public.
