The Problem

As part of my Boy Scout Eagle Project, in conjunction with the Freehold Township Office of Emergency Management, we will be contacting organizations in Freehold Township to create an awareness of a program called New Jersey Register Ready. This program is to encourage all residents with special needs or their families to sign up for the free, voluntary and confidential program that would identify those who may need assistance in the event of a disaster or emergency. This is important component to a community rescue and emergency response. To know where residents with special needs are, to ensure the necessary equipment to assist them is available and to be able to contact them during an emergency can save precious time and possibly lives.

Plan of Action

In an effort to educate the Freehold Township community, I worked with fellow scouts to present the program at township organization meetings. We prepared and delivered information packets to township organizations for posting in newsletters, bulletins or web sites for the benefit of their members/employees. Packets of NJ Register Ready information and poster were prepared and delivered to community organizations.I arrranged a TV interview with a township public official do discuss Emergency Preparedness and the NJRR program and also produced a Public Service Announcement for airing on Freehold Township Public Channel 77. I contacted the County OEM and advised the State OEM of my activities. I also contacted and worked with the Township Public Affairs office to have the NJ Register Ready information and link posted on the Township web site and also to have the information posted in the "Town Crier" and in the Senior Center News letter.
