The Problem

The Civil Rights and Social Justice Team is working to defeat all forms of violence in our high school, including bullying, hate crimes, verbal and physical abuse and any other contributing factors to a negative environment. We are just starting out, but our goal is to inspire and help as many people within and outside of the school by spreading awareness of school violence.

Plan of Action

So far, the CRSJ Team has been an open organization for anyone interested in joining, however, currently we have about 32 permanent members. Our group has created a mission statement and made a public service announcement to the school in respect for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We have also created badges advertising our slogan, "Does it bother you", for our members to wear and to hand out to as many people as possible. Currently, we are working on a social injustice video to present to our school and are organizing a "Day of Silence" to address the issue of gay and lesbian harassment. We are also working on public relations to spread awareness within the community. Lastly, we are working on a fundraiser involving a local nursery to sell seeds in order to raise money for our cause. As our mission becomes more apparent within the school, we hope to create and sell merchandise to spread awareness even further.
