The Problem
The community that I help is in Grifton, NC. It is a relatively poor area that has a lot of old houses that are not in normal living conditions. They were also hit by strong flooding a few years ago.
Why It's Important
My church's youth group got to go be volunteers for this project on our annual mission trip. We got to tear down a lot of old houses to the ground. We tore out homes so other people can tear them down. We help repair old homes that can be spared. We got to rebuild some old ones and some new ones. We got to help put up sheds, roofs, and insulation. We also got to help repair the neighborhood park.
The Plan Of Action
The organization is through the NC Baptist Men. The Grifton branch was is operated by one head director and is kept running by a few workers and a lot of volunteers. This organization has made an incredible impact on the people whose homes we rebuilt. All their services are provided free of charge to the recipients.
How Can Others Get Involved?
Others can help by taking a trip to the center and help rebuild houses. They also need volunteer cooks for the other volunteers. Any contributions can also be made to the organization.
