The Problem

After attending numerous leadership camps and conferences, I have seen that many people in schools are leaders, yet they don't know the right way to go about being a leader. I am planning a leadership retreat that would encompass eight high schools in the Northern Colorado area, where 5 leaders representing different clubs or groups learn how to work together, what type of leader they are, how to improve school issues, and how they can be a better person as well. It will use curriculum that uses a "hypothetical high school" in which students are split up into discussion groups for the weekend and which every decision for the high school is made. Through steps, like reaching concensus, they will present different solutions for many aspects of the school, including creating a mascot, colors, and cheer, while also preparing a skit showing the problems in the school and solutions that could be used to fix the problems. Throughout the weekend, they will learn different trust activities and games that they can use back at their school, including creating goals and servant leadership. A speaker who has experience in the leadership field will talk about how they can use leadership outside of school as well. I hope that this retreat can carry on from year to year and teach students the importance of leadership in our lives.
