Northwestern Interfaith New Orleans Alternative Spring Break
the problem:
More than 4 years after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, the city is no where close to it's pre-storm conditions. Thousands of homes are still abandoned and unlivable, thousands of people have yet to return to the city, unemployment is rampant, and poverty is a huge issue.

14why it's important:
While poverty and lack of infrastructure around the world is a huge problem, it is unconscionable that the it should exist in the wealthiest country in the world. Poverty is a problem around the U.S., but New Orleans post-Katrina is one of the most tangible examples of our government's incompetency in taking care of its citizens.
the plan of action:
By working to rebuild houses in New Orleans, we can help to revitalize the community and restore people to their homes. We can also signify that, as Americans, whether or not we live in New Orleans or were personally affected by Katrina, we feel responsibility to our fellow citizens ensure that everyone has a place to live and a community to call their own.
