Nothing But Red
the problem:
Nothing But Red is an anthology (in the works) of essays responding to a recent "honor killing" in Iraq. The victim was seventeen-year-old Du'a Khalil. Her crime was falling in love with a Sunni Muslim boy. In response to the tragedy, a group of people are collecting essays, short stories, poems, and visual art for an anthology that will be entitled "Nothing But Red." The title came from a blog post by Joss Whedon, who is best known for creating Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The phrase describes the look of Du'a's face in the video onlookers took on their camera phones. Her face was nothing but red. One hundred percent of the proceeds are going to Equality Now, an international organization that fights to gain and hold women's rights.
