The Problem
When we heard the statistic that there’s 1 book for every 300 children, NUI Do Something club realized that something had to be done to change that. For our first club project, we decided to find a way to donate as many books as we can to school in hurricane-hit areas.
Plan of Action
Most of members pitched in to run to drive; some made flyers, others decorated boxes, and some assisted in making announcements and spreading the word. After collecting books from the school, we had a club meeting to check the ISBN numbers of the books, since we collected less than 150 boxes, and pack them. We collected around 4 boxes of books from our school. As for the books donated from Plainsboro Library, we reqruited volunteers to help us check the ISBN numbers of the books left over from the book sale stored in the Plainsboro Library's basement. We held the event on June 5th and collected another 4 boxes. Finally, we shipped the boxes on June 7th. However, we were not finished just yet. Wondering what to do with the books left over from the school book drive, we decided to send them to local organiztion which accepts books. Finally, we were done!
