The first step in trying to solve the aforementioned problems was to devise lesson plans that correlate to the Sunshine State Standards and that are accompanied by games, activities, and easy healthy recipes. Next, I had to learn a little bit about teaching and devise an interactive approach that builds on what students learn in the classroom but also provides freedom and excitement to cultivate curiosity and pique the interest of each student. Afterwards, I set up a website that detailed my lesson plans and mission statement. Then, it was time to go out into the community. I contacted principals, teachers, summer and day camp coordinators, and other similar leaders in the community. Once I found a place that was willing to partner up with NutriFun, I set a date, tailored my lesson plans to the age group and group size, and taught my heart out! The last step in the cycle is to ask for feedback, so I asked the kids what they liked and what could be improved. I use the feedback from every experience to make NutriFun more effective for the next group of students. I am still improving and teaching in my community.
