Nutritious Fun Days
the problem:
Nutrition Fun Days is a project used to help raise awareness and fight against the obesity in children in Southwest Georgia, Dougherty County, East Albany Area. The East Albany area is limited to activities for the children living in certain area. Most of the families are way below poverty level and are single parents homes with fixed income. I would like for my program to bring these activities to the Jackson Height Subdivision to help assists the children become more physically active and the educate them on choosing a healthier lifestyle habit by eating healthy. Obesity in children and youth is a significant public health problem in Georgia according to the 2006 Georgia Data Summary. Percent of Children and Youth who are obese in Georgia, 2004 and 2005: 13% of WIC Children, 24% 3rd Grader, 16% Middle School Children and 12% High School, and only 71% of middle school while 61 % of High school youth who are vigorously active. And only 18$ High School students consume 5 or more service of fruits and vegetables per day. Making them at risks for medical conditions such as hypertension, Diabetes, Obesity, stroke, Arthritis, Asthma, Sleep Amnesia, Cardiovascular disease and some cancers. i would like to see the children in this subdivision get physically moving and choosing a healthier lifestyles habit, then maybe the other subdivision in the Albany, Dougherty County Area, will join in and become a part of make changes for a healthier lifestyles.
