The Problem
In my organization and community, I've noticed two issues. My organization doesn't communicate between clubs the way it can, and my community doesn't seem to want to help itself. Within my organization, I plan on getting the clubs to start to communicating between themselves about the projects and progress they're making. Within my community, I want to start projects that would be beneficial and long lasting. My ultimate goal is to not only start these projects, but ensure they experience longevity as well.
My hope is that these projects are not only applicable to my community, but to all of Illinois, and the United States.
Plan of Action
Operation: Contagious
The State winners of group talent, special talent, skit, and the state student officers choose 2-3 schools (with the approval of those schools, the national office and state office, sponsors, and the winners’ respective schools) to send a video of the state and national convention to a teacher and/or administrator willing to start a club in an attempt to recruit that school into joining the National Beta Club; by showing and explaining by example as to why the schools should join.
If schools knew what Beta was/is, they would more than likely want to be apart of it. Expose them to all that is Beta, Beta becomes CONTAGIOUS.
Operation: Beta-Pals
At the state conventions, each school should: Become pals with another 1-2 clubs and obtain addresses of those 1-2 clubs so that they may at least be familiar with each other when the next convention comes around. When the schools arrive to register, along with the traditional materials provided, they will be given another school’s contact information to do so. The clubs would write and send videos and other Beta-like things to the pal club in an attempt to become closer as a family, and as BETA-PALS.
Operation: Yes We CANNED
Illinois (and all other states) Beta would host state wide canned good drive. Each school that attends the state convention brings non-perishable canned goods that they’ve been collecting up. We’d award the school who brings the most in, then turn the grand amount in to the Salvation Army (we haven't found an organization yet).
Operation: WRITE ON
During free time at convention, members would go in a room set aside for a writing campaign and choose to inscribe a letter to either a troop overseas, or a hospital patient that has no visitors.
