The Problem

The youth of Bridgette C. Kelly Youth Foundation is taking action in Gary, IN. The problems we are trying to solve include cleaning up the neighborhoods we live in environment and foster increased community involvement. Gary, IN is a city that has hundreds of abandoned buildings and homes, several vacant lots, and an increased amount of trash and litter on the streets. There is a large amount of youth in the city and we are trying to set a positive example for more youth to follow. www.bckyf.org sowingseeds@bckyf.org

Plan of Action

Our plan of action has been to implement a service learning methodology. Our youth receive all aspects of service learning. These aspects include reflection, vision, feedback loops, and service. The youth have learned and have matured since the beginning of our project. They have volunteered on behalf of our organization in various restoration efforts throughout Gary, IN. Our plan of action will continue to be implemented as we move along into our tribute to all those who sacrificed their lives on September 11, 2001.
