The Problem

I live on a small island and there hasn't been a cheerleading squad in years. I thought it would be great to get a group of girls together to show our school spirt and provide additional entertainment and the sports games. That was my project at first. It then began to turn into something totally different. There where 5 girls, not including myself who signed up for the squad. All 5 girls had disadvantages and abilities, including being over weight, having autism, epilepsy, depression, bi polar, ADD. At this point I had very little support from the community, but i thought it would be great to take this group of misfits and show the school and community what we are capable of and prove to these girls that they can be cheerleaders, even with their restrictions. Let's just say, we blew there minds away!

Plan of Action

1. Made posters and a sign up sheet about Cheer and Put them up at the school 2. Had a meeting with the girls 3. Started fundraising for all our own equipment 4. Practiced like crazy 5. Performed at the school games with big smiles I think I have given many of these girls the confidence to go out there and chase their dreams. That if they have an idea, with time and great effort you can make it happen.
