Although relatively simple, my project is very needed in not only my community but the world. I am taking an independent research class in order to do a project on organ transplant awareness. The goal of my project is to increase the awareness of organ transplants, aid for people in need or transplants, and to increase awareness about the need for organ donation. I have spent the last half of the year researching my topic, however, my interest and experience with this subject go back to my childhood. I am the daughter of a two-time liver recipient , who is currently in need of a kidney transplant. As a result of this, I have been endowed with a heavy interest and knowledge of the transplant system. Currently, the country is facing a shortage of organs for the people in need of transplants. 17 people die every day waiting for a compatible organ to become available.For my project, I am organizing a symposium in my city of El Paso to raise organ donor awareness, provide people with needed financial aid information, and educate them about transplants.
