The Problem
Our project is a community building project of teaching the youth food security and food sovereignty by growing our own organic garden. Our goal is to teach youth how to start an organic garden on minimal funding so that they may go into there community to teach their skills and spread their knowledge; leading to happier and healthier families. Nowadays we have to buy produce from big consumer grocers and we really don't know the origin of our fruits and vegetables. By creating this garden and spreading the knowledge learned from it, we will solve the issue of the lack of food sovereignty and the lack of food to needy families by donating what we harvest.
Plan of Action
Along with some volunteers at Oxnard City Corps, we have created a garden and planted eight beds of soil with fruits and vegetables that we plan to harvest and send home with families and food shelters. Our plan is in its preliminary stage and will proliferate as the vegetables and fruits grow. Once the project has completed its first harvest, the youth will go out into their community and teach others to create organic gardens and promote a healthy lifestyle.
