The Problem

In Kenya, young people are at the core of the problem of violence and crime due to lack of a youth platform to air their grievances and unemployment rates that is being experienced in this country. They form the majority of the population of about 65% of the total population. They also form the majority victims of the murder registered each year, and are often the agents of such act. The relationship between the young people and the police force are conflicting with the least trust in the police and are most frequent victims of the violent police action. During the post election violence and any time there is political instability in the country, police and young people have at war that has left many young Kenyans dead. There is high degree of fear and mistrust towards the police, regardless of social class and place of residence. The project is therefore creating a platform for direct dialogue between the police culture and the youth culture bridging the gap between these two groups through music, poetry and dances with broad base of themes addressed not only to reduce mutual ‘satanisation and discriminatory practices on the part of the police but also to increase young people knowledge of the work of the police and difficulties it entails’

Why It's Important

Since many young people have lost their lives because of lack of harmony between young people and the police, there is need to bridge the gap and change the mind sets and attitudes of youth towards the police and police towards the youth. There is need for dialogue forum and community policing to enhance cooperation and safety of the community

The Plan Of Action

Though the celebration of art and culture diversity, I intend to host a series of street music and dances shows and peace and conflict management trainings to both young people and the police.

How Can Others Get Involved?

People can help by donating their time to assist in training, mentorship, donation or even bringing their expertise to enhance the growth of this project.
