The Problem
Participatory Action Research is aimed at asking teens questions, in an interview format, to better understand the teen-drinking phenomena. After these interviews are conducted, the researchers will have information about the teen-drinking culture in their community. This information will be compared to publications in various health journals and will be used to plan a course of action to address the teen drinking issue that affects the community.
Plan of Action
This project has many steps. First is recruiting a number of youth to assist in the research and the interviewing process. After they are recruited, they will undergo training and then develop the questions that they wish to address centered on the teen-drinking culture. After training is complete all the researchers will go out into the community and interview teens with varying backgrounds. The goal is to complete 150 surveys by March 2011. After interviews are completed, they will be coded with the help of a research professional and compared to national research and surveys. All results will be compiled in a report complete with a literature review, survey results, and recommendations for a course of action. This project has a deadline of late May to early June of 2010.
