0why it's important:
For my Girl Scout Gold Award Project, I am running a week long camp at my local YMCA to educate elementary students about animals and animal welfare. We will be doing a lot of community service activities in this. I will inspire the kids to take action, while allowing them to have fun with these animals. We will be running many fundraising activities which will be donated to our local animal shelter.
the plan of action:
I am also funding and creating a dog park in my county. It is very difficult to get a piece of land from my government, but I am working hard to have them support me. The main purpose of this project is to SPREAD AWARENESS and RAISE DONATIONS. I will be hosting many events in this park, and hopefully this will gain media attention so that I can publicize the needs of our animal shelter. I will be running different fundraisers and programs through this dog park; hopefully many community members will use this. It is a lot of work to write letters, take pictures, visit people, get plans, and especially raise money. I will be building the entire park purely from donations and grants- the government will only give us the land.
how you can get involved:
If you would like to contribute, or if you'd like more information on how to start my project in YOUR area, please leave me a comment!

THANK you for everything that you are doing for the animals. I became a Spay/Neuter advocate at the age of 14 when I saw how carelessly my mother acted towards my cat -- Mom forbade us to get Pee Wee spayed and peeWee lived a miserable life when Mom also told us we had to leave her behind when we moved away from NY -- my heart broke right there and then. I never saw my beloved cat alive again.
Now after all the years of hard work on my part, I hope I have made Pee Wee proud of me for all the work I have done in the name of Spay /Neuter, TNR, and Animal Welfare.
Are you aware of a very special animal shelter in India?
Visakha SPCA
http://vspca.org
They have a US representative as well -- she is a very dedicated person.
I also met two Animal Rights Lawyers from India-- one at GW University for a talk, and the other at a local Animal Welfare Conference in the US.
I started a Yahoo group - The Multi-Lingual Pet Care Library:
http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/Multilingual_Pet_Care/
It is a collection (ongoing) of documents in MANY different languages -- on Pet Care, Spay Neuter, Rescue, TNR (Trap Neuter, Return and Care of Feral Cats), and Animal Rescue as well.
Take care and thanks again for all you are doing.
