The Problem

I live in Tualatin Oregon, a relatively affluent community. I have attended Tualatin High School since my freshman year and four three years I watched my school have a minimal impact on the community. I knew that we could and should be doing more. I guess the problem I'm trying to solve is the apathy regarding service that is all too common among high school students.

Plan of Action

After coming back from a summer leadership camp, I began brainstorming ways that I could start a movement. I called a couple of well-respected friends and told them that I wanted to start a club at our school to make serving the community easier for students. They loved the idea and we went from there. In our first year, we surpassed all other clubs with 300 members; the first time in recent memory that FBLA has not been the largest club. The interest level has been high all year and we continue to organize and take part in fun projects that make service enjoyable rather than a chore. Though our impact isn't always measurable, it's always visible.
