The Problem
Children face tragedy all the time and many turn to organizations. Some of the local organizations that help children, and get involved with children at troubled times, are Kids Art, County Foster Care and Big Brother or Big Sister. While very helpful, the children are one of many and often do not have an outlet to make them feel individually heard, and they often don't see ways that the events in their lives can inspire others to find ways to handle adversity or tragedy.
Plan of Action
I have had formal training in guitar playing for nearly 4 years.I have played in public several times.
I am writing my own songs. I have been encouraged to reach guitar by my guitar instructors. I can quickly contact the three organizations asking for a child from each program to participate in the program. I can approach guitar stores and dept stores for discounts or donations on guitars. I can set aside time to meet with the children one on one and as a group. I love playing guitar, I know it is a great healer to use music and writing songs. I feel my love of guitar will be contageous. As far as impact and continuation of benefits of the program, the music will be par of the children forever, he ability to play the basic chords and the song they create is a foundation they can build on. The idea that they can turn to music for healing will give them skills to use in dealing with sorrow and anger, and grief. since they are asked to then share the skill with another child, the benefits go on. When they play their song for others - family, friends, community, they will see that they are heard, their story is told, and at the same time entertain and include others in the helping experience. The project will eventually touch many, as each of the students teach another child, and all children taught to create a song and play it on the guitar, play for friends, family, and community.
