I started Peace.Love.Benefits. in the summer of 2006 when I saw the devastating damage done to Israel and Lebanon. Having visited Lebanon that April, the images displayed by the media of displaced children left a scar on my heart. When I was thinking about the resource rich environment I live in, I decided to use my passions to make a difference. In Los Angeles, almost child gets the experience to attend primary level schools. In fact, a large number of students complain about going to school on a daily basis. However students in war conflicted countries such as Afghanistan, Israel and Lebanon often go through obstacles to attend school. Some schools close down while others do not have the proper materials to teach children. This in turn affects the countries economic system because if children are not attending school and thus have no education to become employed. Living in Los Angeles, one of the fashion capitols of the world I decided to take the resources and plan a fashion show to benefit children's education in war conflicting areas. With the help of my close friends Maddie Frohman, Alyssa Lanz and Sheena Ghiani and many more we were able to contact over 25 designers such as J-Brand, Nannete Leopore, and Cynthia Vincent. The models were all volunteers and in fact, a few of the volunteers were real models who were frequently featured in fashion magazines. At the fashion show we were lucky to have Janice Dickinson, the worlds first self-proclaimed supermodel. Over 200 people attended the show and bought all clothing modeled at an extreme discounted price. In the end we raised approximately 8000 dollars which was donated to Save the Children, a non profit organization who aids youth and impacted more than three dozen children. This event has become an annual benefit and I hope to continue and learn through experience to make the fundraiser more profitable.
