The Problem

Fine Arts and Music Education in Indiana, and all over the country, is losing support and is in jeopardy of being cut completely from schools. This project is to help raise awareness about the importance of music and fine arts education as part of a core curriculum. There will be a petition for students and others to sign to keep music and fine arts alive in all Indiana schools.

Plan of Action

Philanthropalooza- the combination of philanthropy (goodwill to humans) and palooza (a huge event or party). Philanthropalooza is an idea that my friends have inspired me to create. Most, if not all, of my friends perform in plays & musicals, are members of bands, or are artists. We share this love and want to see all of the generations below us have the chance to love it too. This is why I have created the idea of starting a tour called Philanthropalooza. The idea is that we will gather local bands who were started because of inspiration by their music education classes and travel to other high schools and middle schools, perform for them, and talk to them about the importance of keeping music and fine art classes alive. By having the bands perform, we will show them what is possible with education, creativity, and passion for the arts. We will share stories of how music and art has inspired us all. And finally, we will let the students sign a petition to keep music and fine arts going. After a small performance at the schools in different cities, we will also hold a show for the public to come out and support Philanthropalooza. The petition will be available to sign there, as well, and we will use any money we raise from selling Philanthropalooza merchandise to fund the tour and donate to to local schools for their music and fine arts education.
