The Problem
Until three years ago, every high school in the Grossmont Union High School District threw away all paper products as we have had no recycling program. With 12 schools, that was over 250 tons of paper per year being thrown away instead of being recycled.
Plan of Action
As the only school in the GUHSD that recycles paper, over the past three years, we are averaging 20 tons of paper recycled per year. However, since we don't receive any money for recycled paper, it costs our volunteer program, The Phoenix Foundation, $600 per year for pickup fees to keep the program running. That money comes from our pockets, and a supplement would really help.
