Picture Book for Children with Arthritis
the problem:
I am writing and illustrating a book for children with arthritis. Arthritis affects nearly 300,000 children in America, yet only 200 doctors are qualified to treat pediatric arthritis. Being diagnosed with arthritis at a young age can be frightening, especially for very young children.

0why it's important:
In December of 2007, I was diagnosed with Lupus. My doctors office is based in Richmond Virginia and I would like to provide this book as a resource for him. He would be able to present the book to new patients that come to see him. The goal would be that the book could help explain some of what the children are going through and make the visit to the rheumatologist less scary.
the plan of action:
I will be writing and illustrating the book myself. My doctor will read what I have written for content and correctness and give me any advice needed. Once the manuscript is finished, I will find a publishing company to professionally produce the book. I would like to have at least 50 copies to present to my doctor. The funds from this grant would go toward paying for the publishing of the book.
how you can get involved:
Others can help by donating to the Arthritis Foundation, calling and writing to their representatives about the Arthritis Prevention, Control, and Cure Act, or participating in the Arthritis Walk.
