Almost two years ago on February 1st 2006 my best friend Sydney Coxon died from a brain tumor called a pediatric diffused intrinsic brain stem glioma when she was 11. She was diagnosed in January of 2005, so she was sick for a little over a year. While she was sick she was treated by many doctors and she underwent many sessions of chemo-therapy and radiation. Currently there are no known causes for brain tumors and very little treatment. There are over 120 different types of brain tumors, which makes finding a effective treatment difficult. The complicated thing about brain tumors is most of the time they are inoperable because the brain stem is the part of the body that controls everything in your body from blinking to breathing, and it is about the size of a pinky finger. Around April of 2006 me and a few other girls decided that we wanted to raise a little money towards cancer research, so that we could maybe save a family the despair of loosing a daughter the way that we lost our friend. That April we created a guild called the "Pink Polka Dots Junior Guild". Little did we know about a year and a half later we would have made about $40,000! The guild has grown to about 20 members ages ranging from 9-14 and we are constantly getting more. If you included all of the mom’s that are involved with the guild it would be about 28 members. September 15th we had a golf tournament and we raised around $27,000. A large portion of our money comes from the homemade cards that the guild makes and sells to the community. We would love your help with some publicity, with us being a growing guild hoping to make as much money as possible to go towards cancer research and pediatric brain tumor research. We all miss Sydney so much and our goal is to maybe eventually find a cure for cancer! Thank you. www.pink4children.blogspot.com
