We took a plastic sample and discovered our school generates about 30 gallons of plastic (after being crushed) daily. We decided not to recycle the milk jugs because we have no way to clean them and they would ruin the trailer we are using to haul the plastic. We are now waiting for DETCOG to get us large trash cans that will be used to store the plastic.

7why it's important:
So much of the waste thrown out at school is classroom paper. Our goal is to get paper out of landfills and recycle it instead.
the plan of action:
We have been meeting with a city sanitation official (Jerry Young) and he is in the process of getting us a paper dumpster which he will hire a contracter to retrieve when it is full. Right now we are working on distributing the individual classroom paper bins and creating a schedule for emptying them.
