The Problem
This project site is located in a neighborhood of Louisville, KY that is plagued by abandoned buildings, empty lots, and general economic decline. It has also been identified as one of the largest food deserts in the greater Louisville community. Lastly, this project is being initiated and developed by neighborhood residents who experience a distinct breakdown of neighbor to neighbor relations.
Plan of Action
SCHEDULE
October, 2010 -initial weed & grass removal.
April, 2011 -secondary weed & grass removal.
May, 2011 -initial native wildflower and grass planting; initial tree planting phase.
May-October, 2011 - weeding & trash removal; first Saturday of each month
November-December, 2011 -winter pruning
2011 -bi-weekly mowing
Neighborhood residents already involved as well as other community members will play an active role in maintaining this site. This will take place through regularly scheduled cleanups, tri-annual pruning, biweekly mowing, annual prairie renewal, and ongoing development. Other neighborhood organizations will also be recruited and involved in the process of maintaining this project site.
