hi, this project looks cool...how do plan on actually helping single mothers? can people who aren't religious get involved? i'd love to know!
I am involved with www.feministsforlife.org, www.priestsforlife.org, and www.sba-list.org. These organizations allow people of any religious background to help. People who are not religious may get involved. I post up toll-free helplines from priestsforlife.org on flyers.I post them any place that has a bulletin board to provide pregnant women help. Volunteering possibilities are available at pregnancy shelters as well. Shelters as well as other pregnancy resources can be found at www.lifecall.org too. http://www.feministsforlife.org/cop/FFLU%20overview.htm has an overview of the services they provide for women who are pregnant. The program allows studenst and others to help with necessities such as clothing, groceries, taking care of the children, and even getting them a college education. I try to do as much as I can, whatever I can do for these pregnant teens and unwed mothers. I like donating money to these organizations so that these women don't have to worry about costs. I am still living with my family, but as soon as I have my own place, I will help a pregnant teen or a single mother by giving them shelter, clothing, food, and any other help.
without abortion, my life would be a mess, my mother would be dead, it is not fair to judge!!
do any of you have any idea what it was like before abortion was legal? women having abortions in alleys, often dying during the process, Dr.s performing with coathangers, do you want that? there's a reason why they made it legal, and you need to think about that before you go judging them on the hardest decision thay ever made!
think about the whole picture! every woman's situation is different, and she should be able to make the decision herself, keep your rosaries off my ovaries!!
Mae 13, I would like to let you understand that as a pro-life person, I am not judging you or any other woman for having one. We can both agree that abortion is not a pleasant thing. I am against the use of it because it hurts the life of another. That human being inside the womb could be anyone, such as you and I..We are different from them in the fact that they didn't survive. I've had friends and family members who have had one and they suffer in depression and one has gone to the extremes of an addiction to drugs.I only want to help them and others who have been in their situation. They all did it for reasons that made them feel like they had no choice but to have their pregnancy terminated. The goal of this project is to help women by providing real help, so that they don't feel like abortion is the only choice they can make; and to make abortion become unthinkable. I pray that science and medicine will advance to prove that there is no need for any abortions.I can see that you have not read the previous comment I made, because of the your angry tone in your comment, I only hope the best for you and I'm sorry to say that I will not stop praying the rosary because I love you and all the other fellow women out there, I consider you all my sisters and the men as well, for I see them as my brothers.God bless.
I've read all of it, but that doesn't change my opinion!
the "keep your rosaries off my ovaries" thing, is an expression, not literal. I don't care what you pray to, or what you use to pray to it,just as long as you keep it away from my rights. You are everything I am against, I'm sure. You're probably against gay marriage, and for that, I will call you a bigot. Your "pro-life",and that means you are trying to strip me of my rights, something I will not stand for! in most situations there are better options than abortion, but not in every situation like you pretend! abortion is not unthinkable, it saves lives! yes, adoption is always a choice, but having a baby is an excruciating experience, and one that some girls might not want to go through, until they are ready. 3/5 of high school girls admit to having gone sexually further than they would have liked to, because of pressure from their boyfriends.
There are a lot of misconceptions about abortion, on both sides of the argument. Many "pro-lifers" honestly believe that the baby knows what's happening, however, many pro-choicers also honestly believe that most, even all of abortions occur because of rape victims, which is equally not true.
So as you can see there are many many sides to every argument.
If you make abortion illegal, women will still have abortions,Drs. will still perform them, but instead of being in the safe clean hospitals, with the doctors haveing access to all the right equipment, and medication, they will be held in alleys, performed with coat hangers, women will often died during the process. By trying to "make abortion unthinkable" you're making a choice that is already extremely hard for women to make, even harder to make. I know that you will not even consider my side of the argument, and I would not expect you to, but at least you have heard my words.
the Goddesses already have blessed me, and may they bless you as well.
I'll continue to pray for you, God bless you..thank you for commenting, Mae 13...For I am at peace that you too have heard my words as well. I once was in your position before... I already had considered it when I was naive, believe me, but through experiences I have learned to accept the truth and I am on the side of life for all, but it doesn't seem that others in support of abortion want to extend that opportunity for all. I believe that both the mother and the child should live, that we should all receive help and abortion is not help it only creates more problems. It is sad that you should come to call names, have you heard me call you any, sister? Some might call terminating a pregnancy a woman's right.., but what about the right of those women who are unborn? I'll leave it at that, God bless once again and I'll keep you in my prayers. Have a great day, sister :)
TrustworthyAlma,I did not stoop to call you any names, I was merely illustrating the differences in our personalities, and describing how, what you think is acceptable, I may see as bigotry. I do not know your opinions on homosexuality, I'm merely discussing the differences in opinions, and the differences in morals.
There is no need to pray that I will lose my religion, I would not pray that you would lose yours, so honestly, don't waste your effort praying I would lose mine.
You're welcome for the comments, I hope you enjoyed a healthy debate!
really, it's less a lack of wanting to extend the privilege of life to all, as much as wanting to leave everyone with their civil rights intact. It's a very difficult decision, and I completely agree that some women shouldn't enter into it as lightly as they do!
it is a medical procedure, after all, and any time where a medical procedure is liable to be avoided is a positive thing in my unique opinion. However, declining women the right to choose what they want to do with our own dear bodies, is not something I am likely ever to advocate for!
I am interested to hear your opinions on the subjects that you did not address in my last post, and the subjects in this one. I am doing my best not to leave any of your questions or comments unanswered, and I do apologize if I have, feel free to point them out to me if that situation has arisen!
I too view humanity as a divinely interrelated and elaborate collaboration of consciousnesses, simply not in a Christian way.
however, "sister" is a phrase that I hold very dear to my heart, so excuse the way it may come across for me not to extend that term to you, as you have extended it to me.
Well, I am not asking you to change your religious beliefs, whatever they may be..I am only wanting to inform that we, pro-lifers are not these extremists that some may see us as (example: killing an abortionist isn't truly pro-life...it is against what pro-life means..For Life) The opposite of Pro-Life is not Pro-Choice, but Pro-Death(abortion and the death penalty are part of what true Pro-lifers do not support). What I mean by praying is simply praying...for your well-being. When I want to pray the rosary in a pro-life way, it is me asking God that a person doesn't go through harm (that the person's health isn't at risk) or doesn't fall into a situation where one will be in danger (such as rape or any other violence), and I ask that help be extended to them so that they do not feel that abortion is the only option. I agree when you mentioned "3/5 of high school girls admit to having gone sexually further than they would have liked to, because of pressure from their boyfriends", I myself have been there. Two times, I thought I was pregnant, and I was scared because of school and wondering if I would be ready.. but I know that I could never dream of putting my child, who would be of my same blood and share my features, to death. I looked for resources that could help those who are in school or have no career and are pregnant, I was scared. I found that The Nururing Network is a wonderful program and so is Feminists For Life...these groups help girls/women with being able to keep the child, and have an education and a career as well. I see a contradiction in saying that abortion saves lives, because those who were aborted are not being saved. I believe that we as human beings are much capable of doing great things and someday we will have it possible where we can save both the life of the mother and the child. I see abortion as something cruel to do to a human being. Just because one is able to do such things doesn't mean one should. I want to also mention that a child I would be carrying in the womb is not the same person as me. By having an abortion I am not terminating myself, but the child. So that is why I refuse to say that it is something that we make as a choice for our bodies when it is in fact that we make the choice for someone else, the child that awaits death. These are my thoughts, I am only mentioning them. Whether you agree or not, that I'll leave for you to decide. I say sister and brother a lot because I feel spiritually connected to other women and men, after all we are human beings. As for the fear some have on abortion becoming illegal once again..do not think that I am advocating for those dangerous things to happen. If we care for each other, providing resources (such as Feminists For Life and The Nurturing Network), help teach sex education to those young who are sexually active, and put more effort into discovering new ways to advance in medical procedures without the use of abortion, we can find that there is no need for it, letting the idea of one become unthinkable. In speaking of those who are rape victims, I weep for them..for I almost was one and when a sister is hurt, I am also hurt..and for people to say that they would want to have an abortion angers me..when I was close to being attacked, I did not think of having an abortion if I would have been impregnated by that sick man. If indeed I was impregnated, I would raise that child and give him/her my love(Here I would prove that the attacker did not dominate me or ruin me, for loving that child will show that I prevailed over the attacker, gave love where he could not). For that child isn't the attacker. The child would share certain genes or features but my genes and features would be there too. Thank you, once again Mae 13 for writing. I hope I'm not leaving anything out. Have a wonderful day.
I am afraid we will have to agree to disagree on this.
I have had a huge family crisis, and I am not able to respond to what you wrote with the time and patience I have in the past.
we are both very had strong, and neither of us is liable to cease fighting, nor liable to change our opinions, and although it is good to hear points of views of others, I am afraid I don't have the time to write back to all of that.
I am glad you have found a cause that brings you joy to advocate for, it will never bring me joy to hear of it, but life is a series of compromises, and arguing about this on a form is not helping anyone! at least both views are presented here, and I hope you will consider my words.
I honestly would love to reply to what you have said, to all of what you have said, but a very close family member of mine is in the hospital, we are not sure if he will make it.
thank you for your time. please, respect my wishes, and do not pray for me or him!
