Chicago, IL, 60612See map: Google MapsWhat's the problem you are trying to solve?: Everyone despite the background in which they originate should have an equal opportunity to succeed. In many of the Chicago Public Schools(CPS), financial barriers are a hindrance to the students success.Often times CPS students are unaware of their abilities due to their dismal surroundings. I feel that if children can be motivated to look past the grim circumstances they can achieve anything. Why is it important to you?: An individuals success is minimal compared to the success of a community as a whole. I want to see an effective change because 3% of African American and Latino males graduating from college is appalling. Everyone is not granted the same initial opportunity and this problem needs to be addressed. What's your plan of action?: Problem Solvers League will educate, inspire, and develop young African American Males in low income communities in or around the Chicago land area into strong entrepreneur minded leaders of tomorrow. This will be accomplished through the use of hands on mentoring programs, curriculum, and a competitive “sports league” formatted series of competitions which will encourage young students to plan and actively look towards the future. How Can Others Help?: Problem Solver League needs the support of college students, teachers, Community leaders,School Administrators, Parents and most importantly positive role models. Children are visual and need constant positive reinforcement and as long as we can produce positive role models, they will succeed.
