See It

There is a great need for professional development training modules. Professional development training is no longer desired, but a required standard (Reynolds, 1999). Professional development refers to skills required for developing and enhancing a specific career path or continuing education (Seneca College of Applied Arts & Technology, 2008). It is extremely helpful to keep up to date with the changing practices in a profession. Professional development training is an essential process for deepening the training practices of professionals as it increases their capacity to teach to high standards (Desimone, 2002). The development of instructor-led training is extremely time consuming. Instructor-led training consists of 35-40 hours of development time for every 1 hour of classroom time (American Society for Training & Development, 2007). Studies advocate that professional development training has a significant, positive influence on trainers and educators’ classroom practices and student achievement (Desimone, 2002). Through the use of effective training modules, trainers and educators need ready-to-go modules that include solid content, activities, and assessments. They need modules that are accessible immediately that gives them the flexibility to customize them to fit their specific needs. Professional development training modules, such as active listening and interviewing skills, assist with the advancement of trainer and educators’ classroom practices and student achievement. As a former professional development trainer, it was difficult for me to develop training modules from scratch. I lacked the time and reliable resources to help with the development of the training modules. It would have been extremely beneficial to have access to a training website that provided professional and consistent training modules. (Edited by DS Staff)

Believe It

This project will allow me to integrate professional development training modules into the training and educational field. There is a great need for professional development training modules. The use of professional development training modules is one way to help professionals in the training and educational field improve their professional skills. In effect, this provides a unique opportunity to help the students. Professional development training has proven to be a positive influence on trainer and educators’ classroom practices and student achievement. The goal of this project is to develop training modules for professional development.

Activities include research professional development training needs, develop six professional development training modules, research and select a website developer, and market the website. Formative and summative evaluation will consist of surveys, checklists, and observation.

How Can Others Get Involved?

Others can help by marketing the training website by word of mouth. Others can also help by providing resources for professional development training.
