Project Alliance is the area's (Fulton/Montgomery Counties, New York) first group dedicated specifically or otherwise to supporting LGBTQ (Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual/Transgender/Questioning) youth, and raising public awareness in respect to the social pressures faced by said youth.
Currently Project Alliance is communicating and working with local school districts in an attempt to form Gay Straight Alliances with in schools. GSA have a proven record of effectiveness in easing some of the pressures faced by teens who identify as being a sexual minority.
Beyond the creating of GSA's, Project Alliance hopes to provide community oriented activities both within, and out side of school to promote public understanding of GLBTQ issues in addition to many other goals.
Since our creation in June of this year, we have started and nurtured a community of like minded youth from our area via myspace, and other electronic means. Nearly all those interested, and involved agree that we need gay-friendly programming within our schools and communities, and expressed interested in pursuing such goals.
