See It

The Amani Baby Cottage is home to over 50 children age 0-5 years old who have been orphanged due to AIDS or other extreme factors. ABC, located in Jinja, Uganda, is an orphanage run almost entirely by volunteers and the support of individual donors. Since Amani opened in 2003 they have had 131 children come through their doors. 48 of those children have been either reunited with extended family or placed in foster homes. 12 of the children have been placed in another ministry house (they can only stay until they are 5). 16 of the children have died because Amani does not refuse children based on their health status. The children at ABC are brought their either by local authorities or the social welfare system. Almost three years ago I saw the documentary "Invisible Children" about the war in Sudan and the children soldiers. It was then that I felt particularly called to this area of Africa and began researching orphanages in Uganda (located under Sudan). www.amanibabycottage.org This summer I will be going to Jinja for 36 days to spend time loving and caring for the children at Amani. I will be helping with the basic everyday needs as well as working along side the nurse helping to provide medical care. With almost 60 infants and toddlers running around, they need a lot of help!
