I am holding a CPR Course on July 17th at 12pm to 4pm in the Emerson B Conference room for people in my department..
Project CPR
the problem:
There are so many situations where out of hospital cardiac arrests happen and there are not enough people certified in CPR to save the life of the person whose heart has stopped. Statistics from the American Heart Association say that 163,221 out of hospital sudden cardiac arrests occur annually in the United States. I want to make a change to this statistic. I am certified in CPR as an instructor at the health care provider’s level and my goal is to get more people certified in CPR and train them to respond to medical emergencies where cardiac arrest is a factor. I am an employee at South Shore Hospital as a patient transporter and I am currently doing an internship as an emergency preparedness student at the hospital as well. The reason why I am the good person for this job is because I care to make a difference. Working in a “Level II” trauma center has taught me that not to hesitate to make a change. I use my training in CPR on a daily basis, not only to teach it; but to save a life. I created project CPR to help people better understand that they can make a difference when involved in a crisis, that they can save a life and that’s basically what CPR is.
vital stats:
people impacted:
8people involved:
1why it's important:
As an emergency preparedness student I am learning act and respond as well as teach how to respond in an event of a disaster in the hospital I work at. I recently was involved in the evacuation of one of my hospitals out-patient surgical centers and it is an amazing feeling to be apart of a team that strives to ready people in an event of an emergency and crisis that’s why thing I am the best person for the job.
the plan of action:
Project CPR is a devised plan to get people certified. I believe that the more people certified the better the outcome for a person suffering from an out of hospital cardiac arrest. As a CPR instructor I have certified at least 6 people and I plan on certifying more people. As a trained person in CPR at a health care provider’s level I believe that the skills are useful. Many people do not see that CPR really helps someone. People think that all CPR is making out with a manikin when it really isn't. The classes basically provide you as a person with the necessary skills to save someone’s life. I taught a class too 4 of my high school peers and a faculty member and after the class this faculty member came to me and told me that I have changed her opinion about CPR and that I changed her way of thinking and her comment is what really made me set out and start this project known as "Project CPR"
how you can get involved:
by takeing and donating 4 hors to come to the classes
project updates:
I am currently organizeing myself to teach a CPR class at the Hospital I work at. The class will be held in July

This sounds like a good start! CPR is so important to learn, it truly can save lives - someone in my school collapsed about a year ago, and everyone nearby was able to help because they made us learn CPR in health class. Post some more info here and some pictures too! And keep us posted with some updates!
I definitely agree. Knowing CPR is always an important skill and needs to be taught to people of all ages. I'd love to hear more about this project! Post some flicks and let us know how the training is going.
