Schools are under pressure by No Child Left Behind to improve student test scores. In order to accomplish this the trend is to shorten the time students spend in physical education class or eliminate it all together. Statistics show students who participate in daily exercise have improved concentration levels in the classroom, as well as improved test scores. At the Indianola Learning Center, an alternative high school, we do not have a gym to have the opportunity to exercise. Instead we do a physical education contract, where we have to exercise on our own at home for two hours, then write down the hours on that contract. We lack equipment. We want to have access to a variety of exercise equipment that will aid in our physical development and well being. In order to accomplish our goal we need this grant to get quality equipment to outfit a designated area in our building. A healthy body contributes to a healthy mind, and healthy minds contribute to a healthy community.

I really hope that my school can win this grant. It would be so helpful.
