The Problem

Our teen mentoring program is designed to allow teens the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of homeless children. Teens will work hands on with their camp buddy guiding them through educational activities and teaching healthy life skills. Our summer camp is also designed to help build mentoring and leadership skills in the teens with up to 200 hours of community service hours available. This summer camp is hosted on the islands of Hawai'i where we have a huge poverty rate among children. By hosting this camp, our keiki (children) are introduced to life skills that will help to end their cycle of homelessness. Allowing the teens to step forward and be part of the change is a great way to create future leaders who tackle real world issues and gain skills required to make a better tomorrow.

Plan of Action

Our program provides a full 4 week program to help guide the teens and their camp buddies through educational programs that will help see the change in their lives. During this summer camp teens are able to attend leadership workshops, have hands on mentoring skills and help develop the programs success. The program is designed to open their hearts and minds to view their own world through different eyes. 1. Teens work hands on with homeless children throughout the camp experiences. 2. Teens have workshops that help them develop the skills needed. 3. The adventures and tours allow teens to grow and learn a new culture. Offering once in a life time experiences. 4. The homeless children are guided through educational activities to open their minds to the world around them 5. The homeless children are given the supplies and taught the skills to live a healthier life. Over the past 5 years our camp has successfully changed the lives of hundreds of participants. Teens have earned community service hours, letters of recommendation and skills for their future. The homeless children have learned life skills, developed a love for learning and exploration and were provided with the supplies to succeed in school.
