The Problem
Car Accidents are the number one cause of death in teens. Distracted driving has become a large issue in all communities. The Ionia County Youth Advisory Council is working on Project Ignition. The goal of Project Ignition is to promote teen driver safety. All it takes is one driver to make a mistake that can potentially hurt not only themselves, but an innocent driver also. By spreading the word on the negative effects of texting and driving, drinking and driving, and not wearing a seatbelt while driving, the Ionia County YAC can help create safer roads for all drivers.
Plan of Action
This upcoming winter, on January 7th, we plan to hold a statewide conference in the Radisson Hotel in Lansing, Michigan to spread the word about Project Ignition. Through this event we will be able to bring in youth from across the state and hopefully inspire them to begin a project back in their hometown. Not only will the word on why we should all drive safe be spread to teens who attend the conference, but we are also putting up billboards to spread our message to everyday drivers. T-shirts, lanyards, key-chains and air fresheners will be passed out to those who attend the state conference.
