I live in Indianapolis, Indiana and the youth dont have a voice here in the city. We dont have a say in our school system or in our community. Some people in my city go to great lengths to make sure that student voice is suppressed. Young people want to belong to something that is bigger than them and most of the time they want to be with something that is powerful and makes a impact. Whether that something is good or bad is up to them. Us as human being regardless of the age want to go where we feel that our voice and input is valued. That could be in a street gang or at the lunch table at school. That sense of value and importance is vital in the development of young people because if somebody feels like they are being ignored than they began to stop caring so much doing mostly likely the exact opposite. So with that being said when youth voice continues to be oppressed then young people will do unconstructive, meaningless things. Then with that comes the labels and preconceived notions amongst the adults about the youth. I get tried of watching the news and hearing about kids getting locked up especially those who are minority. So I wanted to do something.
