The Problem

After graduating from college I found the job market to be depressing and difficult, I knew I could not be alone in my search to find something in my field. Many recent graduates are forced to take the first available job because of the pressures to work and pay back the enormous debt accumulated while in school. I realized the problem was that many young adults have drive and passion they may not get to focus on or may not get attention for it. I also felt that so many young adults are doing what they love but not as a job and I think it is important to spotlight these individuals that haven't let go of their passion. Sometimes we don't strive for what we really want to do because it may be viewed as unconventional, and I wanted to remove that stigma. Secondly, I saw that there was a LACK of support among fellow young adults. Instead of cheering someone on we so often want to be non-supportive towards someone just because we do not know them personally. I saw a lack of compassion and camaraderie in my age group.

Plan of Action

My plan of action was to create "proME" a movement to ignite young adults to work hard towards their dreams and also support others doing the same. proME promotes young adults as they work to achieve goals, in an effort to help people stay inspired and encouraged I created a twitter account, @proME2012. What I coined as #proMEmonday, I provide little tokens of inspiration to help jump start your week. Currently I am working on developing a website where videos of various individuals can be seen, and have a regular feature on people working in different avenues. I am calling young adults to record themselves (doesn't have to be long) stating their passion, goals, ambition and/or a business they may have started. After expressing that, close by saying "My name is _____ ______ and I am proME." I plan to collect these short videos of people and mural the background of the website to show that this generation is motivated! I see proME website becoming a network resource for young adults to link up with other people with similar drive. send the videos to iwillbeproME@gmail.com
