The Problem
High School students with disablities don't always get the same oppertunites as the typically developing students. I think that everyone, no matter there disablities or intrests are, should have the same fun experences as everyone else.
Plan of Action
The members of PV Pals believe in social inclusion for all students. We are committed to living the six pillars of character. We believe that everyone, regardless of ability or disability, is entitled to a happy and enjoyable high school experience. Through regular, school-sponsored, structured social activities, we promote respect and understanding of all students.
I have already started the club at my High School and this year will be filled with fun activites that everyone is included in.
One fun activity that I'm most excited about is to organize a pre-Homecoming or pre-Turnabout dance. Many of the students with disabilities at my high school become overwhelmed with the high school dances. They then decide not to attend or they dance by themselves in the corner of the dance floor. What if an hour before the dance we have a small dance party together in the seperate room? Then we could all walk together to the main event. With my experience with the Sparkles, the special needs cheerleaders, I believe that this would prove to be rewarding for everyone involved and would provide a sense of security and acceptance to those students wanting to attend a dance.
