"Reaching Beyond Tolerance, A Day of Interfaith Youth Service at Miami University"
the problem:
Miami University has a very homogeneous environment that can be somewhat hostile towards those who do not fit into the norm. In all seriousness, those who are not from the white, Christian, upper middle class are at a societal disadvantage here; it's not an explicit hatred or prejudice, but something that is subconsciously expressed.

15why it's important:
One way to combat this is through interfaith work and recognizing the shared values among all religious and non-religious moral codes and philosophies that call us to serve others and our earth. Our group, Interfaith Circle, works to create awareness and learning opportunities, foster positive interactions among those of different lifestyles and choices, and to create a more accepting pluralistic environment here at Miami.
the plan of action:
I have contacted various student organizations, departments, and local religious communities in an effort to collaborate and bring forth our differences to impact a larger goal and movement. In the past when we have done this, our volunteers felt satisfied and as if they had learned something new from someone who may be different than them.
how you can get involved:
Others can help by volunteering with the clean up part of the day, the dinner making and setting up, and just by showing support with their numbers and members.

I think interfaith work is really awesome. but how do you actually DO stuff together. The interfaith stuff I;ve been to is, like sitting around and eating dinner together or singing lame songs. can you make this fun and seem normal? I hope you post updates.
i agree with you- definitely keep us updated on the actual things that everyone does together. maybe when you get your project really rolling and successful you can spread it to other colleges in the area or even high schools.
