The Problem
Richbone Initiative Foundation is seeking a grant to expand our Read to Succeed! Program and ICT with the objective of helping all students of Accra Royal Basic Junior High School who are at risk of reading, to increase their reading skills and to read at grade level using the same classroom textbooks and materials as their peers and also to have access to computers in classes to help them to learn basic computer skills that will help them to more easily obtain information and communicate in their daily lives and to improve their opportunities for better jobs. The objective is that by the end of the year the students will have at least doubled their reading speed and will have improved their reading skills by one to two grade levels and also their speaking of English language. The Read to Succeed! Program is based on the recent research on effective reading instruction.
Plan of Action
1. Providing a measurable increase in reading speed, comprehension, and reading attention span. The objective is that the students will double their reading speed and increase their reading skills by one to two grade levels by the end of the school year. 2. Enabling poor readers to access the general curriculum through the use of assistive reading Technology to scan and read their textbooks and other classroom materials. 3. Providing learning disabled students with a multi-sensory reading alternative that will help them increase their reading speed to the point they can read on their own. 4. Helping students to improve the development, literacy and economic status with the use of computers in class and to enhance their ICT knowledge since it has been introduce in their school syllabus.
By providing all this educational materials and computers to the school, it will help improve the standard of good quality education in the community and will also help people from these communities to stay in their communities rather than moving or traveling to big cities just to have good education or look for jobs. Again it will help the schools to type and prints it own examination papers to enable them save money for other purposes.
Our organization will also train the teachers on how to use the computers and to maintain it. Books and sports kits will also be check every three months to see how it is been maintained and educational quiz will be organized twice every semester to check on their reading ability.
