The Problem

Reading Partners is an educational non profit that is based in Oakland, CA. We have school sites in San Francisco, East Bay, South Bay, Peninsula, Sacramento, Los Angeles and just recently launched in Washington D.C. Our vision is for all children in this nation to have the reading skills they need to reach their full potential. Our mission is to help children become lifelong readers by empowering communities to provide individualized instruction with measurable results.

Plan of Action

Currently we are in 37 school sites and we hope this number grows profoundly ever single year- but the most important thing is that our quality stays consistent. We have a site coordinator at every single school site who is there Monday through Thursday 9-5 to be a resource to the volunteers. The tutors in Reading Partners are all amazing volunteers from the very community the school site is in. Reading Partners creates a space where volunteers can come in and help the children that will, in the future, help the community. We just ask for one 45 minute session per week for the semester or 3 months.
