The Problem

The primary location of the project lies in the heart of what was once known as Bankhead Highway, Atlanta, GA, a tough neighborhood recently renamed Donald Hollowell Parkway in an effort to revitalize the negative stigma attached to this section of the city. Our project has been designed to encourage those within the community to take pride in the place that they live, attend school, do business, worship and thrive. We hope to create an ongoing opportunity for residents, business leaders, community members and organizations to play an active role in making our community a healthier place to live. Neighborhood clean-up events benefit our community in many ways. The most obvious benefit is the ability to beautify our neighborhood by removing large quantities of garbage, trash, and other debris as well as to unite the community with a regular clean-up activities to develop a positive image and enhance the environment where we live in a positive manner.

Plan of Action

The Project Coordinator will serve as the authority for all decisions leading up to, during and following the event. The Co-Coordinator will assist the Project Coordinator, their duties will include: • Recruiting volunteers to ensure a diverse representation from the community (residents, schools, colleges, churches etc. • Seek sponsoring organization(s) for funding, donation of their time, resources, providing refreshments • Additional fund raising for (T-shirts, supplies, etc.) • Decide date, time, location, area to be serviced • Notify local authorities for input, traffic control, safety guidelines, necessary documents to file • Determine need for waste haulers, involve pro bono or low cost agency Atlanta’s Blessed Trinity will serve as primary organizers assisting Project Coordinators, their duties will include: • Establishing Committees to be responsible for the following- • Supply/material donations, collection, distribution • Refreshments • First Aid • Video and Photography • Volunteer Coordination • Advertising • Post Clean Up Refreshments/Acknowledgements
