I believe recycling is important, and really it does not take much effort to make a difference. I recycle bottles, glass, cardboard, plastic containers, and of course cans. The advantage of recycling is that I only take the "garbage" out once a week (things that could not be recycled). When I reach my goal of six or seven bags of recycling each week , I dump it at the nearest recycling center on Pershing and Ashland, about a 8 minute drive. I feel good knowing I am making a difference for the world and my community. I plan to make a Reduce Reuse Recycle club at my high school very soon. I have to talk to my dean but if she will let me I would like to set up a table with hanging signs stating facts about recycling. I will have a container just for recycled batteries, one for aluminum cans, pop tabs, and cardboard material. Recently my NHS program has been collecting pop tabs for the Ronald Mcdonald House Charities and my classmates and I have been collecting constatnly. Our families are great support not throwing away the cans but keeping them and giving them to us. When I put my mind to something, especially if its to help others, I will work to get it. Me and my friends went to six flags in Gurnee for frieght fest October 29th and when it closed at ten oclock, we stayed and picked up all the aluminum cans that people left in the parking lot, and added them to the collection for the charity. I recently had a great idea, since my school already collects cans that are later recycled, I thought I could take the cans myself and swap them for cash, and donate the money to the Ronald Charities also. I am proud to say I dedicate myself to my community and helping the world.

Thank you
Amanda Groth
