The Problem

Contrary to rumors that our school does't recycle, and everything is dumped into the trash, the yellow and blue bins around our school ARE used to recycle. Students and teachers don't know for sure what can be recycled, and what materials go into the bins. Some students can be lazy and just throw away reusable items. Many people want to recycle, but don't know the proper way to.

Plan of Action

During our weekly meetings, we obtained recycled paper from our club advisor and made mini posters, giving a description and visual of what can be recycled. Everything goes into the same bin, and is later separated out at the recycling center. Caps on bottles must be removed, because the caps are a different type of plastic. After making around 90 of these posters, we distributed them to teachers to post in their classrooms near bins. We sent out an email to all staff in our school to make sure that they know what can be recycled, so they can assist students. It was very exciting to see the posters in different classrooms, to help clarify the recycling system at our school.
