Refugee Aid has had numerous projects in only a few years. Of them was our latest project, Refugee Camp Out. Refugee Aid, to create awareness of refugee situations, hosted a camp out to simulate a real life refugee experience. Several high school students came after school ended with cardboard boxes to build their own tents. We slept out side with a limited amount of water and crackers. Each student was assigned a role such as a rebel, UN peacekeep, or refugee. We picked a refugee situation to model after, the Congolese refugees, and read articles and researched their situation. Refugee Aid has also published the interviews it had with refugees in the school paper. The club has hosted several documentaries days where it would show tapes of refugee situations, with a different situation every couple of months. We also helped a North Korean refugee put together a petition, and helped gather 1,000 signatures mostly from the high school. The goal was 30,000, which was reached. We have lobbied during North Korean Freedom Week in Washington DC. As president and cofounder of Refugee Aid, I helped illustrate and publish a children's poem book whose profits will go to refugees. Our next project is to help Rwandan orphans with our dodgeball tournament fundraiser. We also hope to go to Washington DC again for our annual club trip.
