The Problem
RelightNY is a charitable organization that is dedicated to the fight against global warming. RelightNY's mission is to inform and inspire people that the seemingly unachievable task of helping to protect the earth's environment for current and future generations can be achieved, collectively, by the small, but tangible action of changing a light bulb.
Why It's Important
RelightNY raises money to purchase CFL bulbs at a discount price for low-income housing tenants. What is special about our organization is that it takes a huge, “global” issue and allows people old or young, wealthy or poor to have a stake in resolving the problem. By using RelightNY's new website (relightny.com), people from all over New York City can adopt their own home or their entire apartment building and record the number of incandescent bulbs they have helped convert to CFLs. One by one, everyone across the city can work together to conserve massive amounts of energy, which will help to create a better environment and future for us all.
The Plan Of Action
By donating CFL bulbs to tenants in low-income housing units we hope that our recipients, as well as anyone else who hears of our project, will be motivated to change not just their light bulbs but also their lifestyles. By implementing "green" curriculums in New York City public schools, we hope to inspire thousands of kids to make the easy but difference-making switch from an incandescent light bulb to a CFL.
How Can Others Get Involved?
Others can help by converting incandescent bulbs to CFLs and recording their changes on relightny.com.

What a great idea! I read through the project and loved the impact made from the local level (maybe the regional level, in the case of New York City).
Good luck with your project.
