the problem:
An unexpected 8.8 earthquake hit Chile leaving many residents without a home, clothes, food, water, electricity, gas. Worst of all, it has left them worried and devastated about their lost loved ones.
vital stats:
people impacted:
2,000people involved:
750why it's important:
It has been reported that there were over 300 deaths and over 2 million people affected by the earthquake. Victims are in urgent need and we can provide the help. Therefore, why should this issue go unnoticed and needs unmet? Why would it not be important to me or anyone else?
the plan of action:
To meet victims' short term needs (food, clothes) as well as long term ones (housing). The focus is reconstructing on some level a world that right now lacks a strong foundation.
how you can get involved:
Physically: by helping feed victims and/or cleaning up or with donations: food, clothes, money, etc...click the link

This is great! Can you tell us a little more about the results of your efforts?
Our movement of International Christian Churches in collaboration with MERCY worldwide and Habitat for Humanity seeks to alleviate the frustration and desperation of the victims affected by the earthquake. Our mission shares the same purposes and goals of Mercy Worldwide and Habitat for Humanity, which include bringing relief and care to those in need worldwide as well as building simple, decent, and affordable houses for those who lack adequate shelter. Our goal is not to provide one or the other but rather a mixture of both. Unfortunately, in this situation people are lacking more than food and clothes; therefore we want to concentrate on actions that will have long term affects such as housing. The focus is reconstructing on some level a world that right now lacks a strong foundation.
Currently, donations from Mercy Worldwide and that from various International Christian Churches have been sent out to meet the needs of our close friends and their relatives. There is so much that we would like to contribute yet our personal resources are also limited. However, the intention is to be able to provide for people outside the walls of our friend's houses. We want to go into the community and work from the outside in rather than from the inside out. It is also true that a small number of needs have been met but this great emergency requires greater assistance (funding) which we are unable to provide.
A month ago our movement of churches collected a special contribution for Chile; we raised $663 in our Syracuse Congregation alone. As a movement, over $3,000. Also our church leaders in Chile, Matt & Helen (from one of the videos), were able to meet with the emergency response team assembled immediately after the earthquake and form an alliance with Habitat for Humanity weeks ago. In addition, volunteers in the church in Chile along with Mercy Worldwide have taken it upon themselves to search for those who are yet missing and serve those who are in urgent need. They continue to walk the streets seeking opportunities in which they can provide their help.
We look to improve these results the best we can. too many lives affected and the more hands involved, the sooner we will begin to see results.
