The Problem

Our industrialized and "civilized" culture as a whole is damaging the environment and devastating all life on our precious planet. -rampant consumerism promotes resource depletion and environmental catastrophe -modern totalitarian agriculture only serves to feed humans and in practice is very costly to the environment and dampens bio diversity, all the while is not providing as healthy of food as it should be -our modern culture separates man from nature, weakening our connection as a species to the world around us

Plan of Action

Driven by our ideologies we as a collective, we (a group of tight knit friends and college students) forged Revive the Roots (a local RI-Non Profit and Rhode Islands 1st and only Transition Initiative) for the purpose of promoting and educating the public about self-reliance and sustainability here in our home state of RI. We quickly gained momentum after presenting our ideas to the Smithfield Town Council & the Smithfield Land Trust, they embraced our ideas with open arms and leased us 16 acres of land to turn into a local hub for sustainability. The property, dubbed Mowry Gardens, boasts one of Rhode Islands only Edible Forest Gardens, multiple polyculture production beds, and a collection of community garden plots. We aim to install more forest gardens throughout our home town, and state as well as promoting and educating the public about sustainability and community based self-reliance. Only together as a collective can we push forward into the future with confidence that we can and will make a difference. Together we can steer this culture away from it's destructive habits and save ourselves from a bleak and desolate future. We depend on our planets well-being for survival, together we can ensure a sustainable future for our species and all others that we share our planet with.
