The Problem

We, as a club, are trying to promote awareness of animal rights abuses, such as: the fur industry, animal testing, puppy mills, the circus, etc. We support giving people information that they can use to make ethical decisions regarding animals, as well as providing direct monetary support to animal rights organizations like The Humane Society. Through information and discussion, we are bringing an end to ignorance--a key factor in perpetuating cruelty. We believe that knowledge is power, and the knowledge we give to our community helps them make positive decisions regarding animals; maybe the next time they go to the supermarket, they will buy products not tested on animals; perhaps they will choose to adopt a pet, instead of buying one in a pet shop; perhaps they will choose to not go to the circus, and instead see a film for entertainment. Every little action counts, and it all starts with knowledge and awareness.

Plan of Action

After being turned down the first year I applied, my application for my school club was accepted the second time. As this is the first year we have been operating, much of what we have done has been on a small scale "test run", so to speak. Next school year, we look forward to more community involvement. However, we have made key strides in our short existence. During the holiday season of 2010, we raised over $150.00 dollars for our local Humane Society, and collected blankets and toys to donate. We have also held successful raffles, and distributed information on products that are not tested on animals. In addition, we look forward to having guest speakers talk to the students later this spring. At the end of this year, we will all "regroup" and create a plan of "attack" for next year, assessing our strengths and weaknesses.
